Attentiveness and Professionalism



Heritage Behavioral Services, an Independent non-profit agency, advocates optimal services for all Individuals with Developmental Disabilities.  These services must focus on the psycho-social, environmental and biomedical needs.
In partnerships with the community providers our research- and evidence-based services include:


  • Positive Behavioral Support (PBS) Services:
Emphasis is on the psycho-behavioral, socio-environmental and bio-medical needs of the Individual with developmental disability.
  • Staff Training  
Training in basic positive behavioral supports that are intellectual and developmental disability-specific.  Supports that are least restrictive and proactive in crisis management. 
  • Case Management
Practical case management in developmental disabilities with focus on the bio-physical and   environmental needs following relevant clinical assessments.
  • Residential Services
High quality and safe residential services in partnership with State-approved residential service providers in the region; supervised by trained and professional staff.

Ethan Saylor: Down Syndrome Maryland law enforcement workers need more guidance in dealing with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, according to a commission formed after a man with Down syndrome died in a struggle with Frederick County sheriff's deputies.     Gov. Martin O'Malley created the Commission for Effective Community Inclusion of Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in September after Robert "Ethan" Saylor, 26, died Jan. 12 when deputies attempted to remove him from a Frederick movie theater. "Current training of law enforcement personnel in Maryland on how best to interact with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is not offered in every jurisdiction and what is provided is inconsistent and not comprehensive," the commission wrote in a progress report released Thursday. Autism At Center Of New Netflix Series ‘Atypical’

The coming-of-age story of an 18-year-old with autism is headed to Netflix. The streaming service said it will debut the eight-episode series “Atypical” later this summer. The half-hour show is presented from the perspective of Sam, a teen on the spectrum played by Keir Gilchrist, who’s looking to gain independence and find love.
